Regular bridge sessions

Our regular bridge sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. Play starts at 7.30pm, so please be seated by 7:25pm. There is plenty of free car parking available on site, and our licensed bar is available all evening.

Hands are pre-dealt, with hand records provided at the end of play. We use BridgeMates to enter results at the table, so the results are out as soon as the last hand has been played, and are also available on our website the same night, and via Pianola.

These sessions are not suitable for complete beginners. On Mondays and Wednesdays you need a partner; if you do not have one then please phone Alan Williams (0117 923 0020) before 1pm and he will endeavour to find someone for you to play with.

Monday evenings

These are our busiest sessions – usually between eleven and fourteen tables. It's aimed at more experienced players where play is fast and competition is strong. But less experienced players are still welcome.

This event is scored on the night both with handicap (based on the EBU National Grading System) and without. For players who play frequently on Mondays, it is also part of two leagues that are sponsored by our partner - sports analytical website Tips.gg: the Monday Handicapped League running over twelve weeks, and the Monday Champions League running over the calendar year.

Wednesday evenings

We usually have between four and seven tables, making it a good night for both less experienced players and some of our more experienced members to play in a relaxed atmosphere.

For players who play frequently on Wednesdays this session is part of two leagues: the Wednesday League, which runs over twelve weeks, and the Lilian Skinner Cup which runs over twelve months and is handicapped based on the EBU National Grading System.

Friday evenings

Our most relaxed evening session is on Friday – usually between three and five tables and excellent for less experienced players. And a partner is guaranteed on the night, so you can just turn up on your own and be sure of a game.

We play Teams if possible, by matching up pairs without team-mates. But if there are an odd number of pairs, we play Cross-IMPed Pairs. For players who play frequently on Fridays, each session is part of a Friday League, which runs over twelve weeks.

Club sessions

Our regular bridge sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. We have recently successfully launched a weekly improvers session on Thursday afternoons.

Each year we hold a number of Club Competitions, replacing a regular Monday or Wednesday session. We also stage a number of light-hearted Special Events.

All sessions are shown in the Calendar.

Chill out on Thursdays

On Thursday afternoons we have stress-free supervised bridge sessions at the Club House for those of you who have just learnt the game and want the time to bid and play at a slower rate before trying the faster club rate of play. The atmosphere is friendly and a number of experienced players are always available so you can ask for help with the bidding and the play of the hands.

Before supervised play starts, there is usually a very short lesson covering a single basic principle. You don't need to book or have a partner – just turn up before 2pm.

There is no scoring or winner, and hand records are available after the play for you to enjoy and analyse at your leisure. The session fee is £4. Phone Jen Challoner (0117 962 9991) if you have any queries.
